TINY HOUSE VS RV: WHICH IS BETTER FOR YOU?

In this article about Tiny House vs RV we are going to go on a factor by factor process and see ourselves which is better for you. Well. truth be told I’m a little biased towards tiny home since I see that they are a wise choice from a logical stand point if you aren’t going to travel a lot. Tiny home is perfect for the people who will stay for at least a month at one place while RV is for someone who are on move and stops only for a brief period of time.

Waste no more time and let’s dive straight onto the battle of tiny house vs RV

1. Durability

Let’s get it done with, a tiny home is much more durable than a RV since it is made up of better materials than those used in an RV. The primary criteria for choosing a material to build a RV is that the material should be light in weight so as to reduce the weight of the RV as much as possible. This often results in compromising the quality of the material however, the case is not same in a tiny house. The materials are better and hence long lasting.

2. Space

The primary advantage a tiny home has over an RV in terms of space is that you can do everything in a tiny house that you can do in a RV PLUS you have the additional Loft bed & loft storage option. Which means that, a RV can only be a single story whereas a tiny house can be 2 stories high; which eventually gives you more space. More than that, your tiny home can be as long as 53′ if you want but not a RV.

Coming to Claustrophobia, a Rv is way more claustrophobic than a tiny house on wheels. It’s a done deal for you if you call yourself claustrophobic.

3. Toxicity

A tiny home can be made up of eco-friendly material (which is usually the case). It is minimalist (if you want to), and it is painted with Low-VOC paints and no formaldehyde is used. Everything can be done as per your demand and requirements. Sadly, the case is not same with a RV.

4. Psychological State

When we engage in the battle of tiny home vs rv, we cannot dodge the psychological state of the residents that are to occupy the tiny house or RV.

Psychologically, a tiny house is more of a home than an RV is. Whether we talk of tiny house on wheels, or a tiny house on ground, a tiny house imparts a feeling of an actual home, a place you can call home while a RV will always be a RV, it won’t be your home, and the feeling of home is difficult to have and that is the reason why many RV dwellers end up having a permanent home or a tiny house eventually later in their lives.

5. Parking Problems: Tiny House vs RV

Let’s eat the elephant and agree to it that it is easier to park a RV than a tiny house. Tiny House still isn’t legal in a lot of places (here are the places where it is legal) whereas RV has been in the market for a very long time and has a better developed eco-system than tiny homes hence it is easier to find a land or RV parks than finding one for a tiny house. In fact once you have decided to build a tiny house, the very next step should be to find a land for your tiny house.

6. Tiny Homes can handle weather better

As I mentioned in the first place, a tiny home is made up of better materials than a RV, hence it can provide better insulation and better energy efficiency than a RV. I don’t know where you’ll live in your tiny house, but wherever you go, you’ll need insulation, and the insulation is better in a tiny house than in a RV.

7. Depreciation & Value: Tiny home vs RV

Let’s face it, RV is a motor vehicle and motor vehicles value depreciate, by the time you have spent 2 years in your RV, the value would have depreciated by almost 50%, whereas a tiny home, due to increased demand and awareness about it, the value tends to go up. This is clear and added benefit of living in a tiny house. Your Value for money and the resale value is way higher.

8. Practicality and utility

I think you already know it, a tiny home is meant to live in, that’s the purpose, while a RV is meant to Live + Move. There are 2 goals of a RV while with a tiny house, only one. Hence the architects and designer take special care when they design a tiny house, they want to make it as close to a normal home while the design aspect in a RV is to make it easily movable while providing living space for a person. The underlying ideologies are different and that makes all the difference.

So now you know and I think are convinced that a tiny home is better than a RV, but is there something even better than a tiny house? Yes! I’d any day go for Small house over tiny house.
